At the Heli-Expo show today, AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, and CAE announced that AgustaWestland AW139 initial helicopter type rating and recurrent training is now available in Morristown, New Jersey, USA.
The AgustaWestland program utilizes a newly approved Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certified Level D AW139 full-flight simulator, located at CAE's Northeast Training Center (NETC).
It was billed as something special. A major event. A clear statement about Thales' commitment to simulation and training. And by the end, there could not have been one person in the room who could doubt that Thales was not only here to stay, but it was also here to win.
The launch of The New Reality had been cloaked in mystery from the beginning. There is often the risk, in taking such an approach, that the final 'reveal' does not quite match the billing. Not in this case.
As the curtains went back, and the new 'RealitySeven' simulator appeared like some magnificent creature from an H G Wells novel, picked out in brilliant purple and blue, the crown had been firmly placed upon the head of Thales as the newly anointed leader in simulation and training.
Thales has taken the brave step of acknowledging flaws in the delivery of its training and simulation services and investing significant time and money to launch a new standard of service.Branded “The New Reality”, the programme is the result of an 18-month period of research that showed Thales that better customer engagement was required. The new focus comprises four pillars: integrated solutions; commercial solutions; support solutions; and equipment solutions.
“We’ve had some feedback from customers who questioned whether Thales was really interested in the simulation business. The answer is most definitely ‘yes’, and we want people to know it,” said Marion Broughton, managing director of the Thales training and simulation business.
A launch ceremony at the company's new production plant near London Gatwick airport in the UK today unveiled the company's latest series of full-flight simulators, dubbed RealitySeven. The unique aspect of these training devices, says the company, is that they are completely modular assemblies.
